I begin by explaining to non-specialists why resolution of singularities in characteristic 0 works. Then I go into some ideas telling how it actually works. I finish with a brief discussion of related results on foliations.
Nous commençons par expliquer aux non-spécialistes pourquoi la résolution des singularités en caractéristique 0 fonctionne. Nous exposons ensuite quelques idées pour expliquer la manière dont elle fonctionne vraiment. Nous terminons par une brève discussion des résultats associés concernant les feuilletages.
